Walk ‘til you drop at the Extra Mile Endurathon (May 30)BOULDER—As a precursor to Walk & Bike Month in June, Extra Mile Endurathon, an offspring of the Global Games Group, will hold an “Extra Mile Endurathon” on Friday, May 30, starting at 5 p.m. Participants can walk for as long as they can or for as long as they want on a 3.6-mile loop around the Boulder Creek Trail and the Pearl Street Mall until only one walker is left. Meet friends, enjoy your surroundings and feel good doing it. The winner will be awarded $1,000. There will be mandatory stops at “food to go” places and a mandatory 10-minute stop after every loop. There is no entry fee for this event. For every participant and for every hour walked, Extra Mile Endurathon will donate $1 to the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Extra Mile Endurathon was founded by Alexander Skora and has been hosted in Berlin, Barcelona, Buenos Aires and Las Vegas. Entries are still being accepted. Boulder Cycling Club to host weekend rides in JuneBOULDER—As part of Walk & Bike Month in June, the Boulder Cycling Club will host road bike rides on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the month. On Saturdays, riders will meet at Bicycle Village on 28th and Pearl at 9:15 a.m.; rides will be 25 miles or more. On Sundays, meet at Mista Italian Restaurant on 28th and Iris at 9:30 a.m.; be ready to ride 25 to 50 miles. The Boulder Cycling Clubwas created to connect bike riders of all levels with organized rides and to create a network for cyclists. These rides are open to the public. Circle Boulder by Bike Ride (June 1)BOULDER—As part of Walk & Bike Month in June, come explore Boulder on a free, non-competitive bike ride for all ages on Sunday, June 1, starting at 3 p.m. at Scott Carpenter Park, 30th and Arapahoe. The full “B360” ride begins at 3 p.m., and the half “B180” ride begins at 3:30 p.m. The ride will follow a rolling route along a network of bike paths, neighborhood streets and unpaved trails. Kids can Join Community Cycles to ride through a mini-course designed to promote bike safety and teach bike skills. There will be a helmet fitting for adults and kids of all ages. Explore new bike trails in Boulder (June 7)BOULDER—During Walk & Bike Month in June, join Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks’ Ranger Joe Reale on Saturday, June 7, from 9 to 11 a.m. to explore the more than 10 miles of new biking opportunities in Boulder, including six miles of brand new trails and the first trails west of Broadway available to bikes in more than 10 years. Participants will meet at the Marshall Mesa trailhead with plenty of water and a mountain bike in good order; be prepared for a fun two- to three-hour ride covering 10-15 miles. Join trail guide Vijay Viswanathan to enjoy the gorgeous distant view of the mountains and learn about the animal and plant life along South Boulder Creek. Community Cycles hosts Bike Shorts Film Fest at Boulder Theater (June 25)BOULDER—Community Cycles, a nonprofit bicycle advocacy organization and this year’s coordinator of Walk & Bike Month, will host the second annual Bike Shorts Film Festival. This year’s film festival will be held at the Boulder Theater on Bike to Work Day, Wednesday, June 25, at 7 p.m. There will be a selection of short bicycle films celebrating the potential and fun uses of the bicycle.
