GO Boulder/ Community Cycles Bike Ambassadors offer bike safety and commuting tips Where should cyclists ride? Why should cyclists always ride with the flow of traffic? Does my child’s helmet fit properly? How can I teach my child to ride a bike? How do I fix a flat? What do I need to know to start commuting by bike to work? How can I combine biking and riding the bus to increase my transit options? These are some of the questions that the GO Boulder/ Community Cycles Bike Ambassadors are answering this summer. Two bike ambassadors are working this summer to teach kids to safely ride bikes, help people make sure they are prepared to bike to work, school or shopping, and raise public awareness on path and roadway user rights and responsibilities. The ambassadors have been working at the Farmer’s Market, with schools and camps and will be at recreations centers and other public places, spreading the message of safe and courteous bike riding. “The Bike Ambassadors program is an exciting partnership between GO Boulder and Community Cycles that aims to educated cyclists where they are – in the streets and on the bike paths” said GO Boulder Bicycle/Pedestrian Planner Marni Ratzel. “The ambassadors will get more people walking and biking while teaching them about rights, responsibilities and safety as a cyclist, pedestrian and motorist. It’s important that we all have a common understanding of how to share our facilities safely.” Nearly 2,000 cyclists of all abilities share the Boulder Creek Path with other pathway users. Thousands more cyclists share roads with motor vehicles and crosswalks with pedestrians while making trips on streets throughout Boulder. Currently, 95 percent of Boulder’s arterial streets are equipped with bike facilities, and nearly 30 percent of all trips are made on bike and foot.
